9/7 A drawing was made of a figure in a subway station (14th Street/Union Square) with two sets of word balloons coming out of his ears (reading "And if a ten ton truck killed the both of us, to die by your side, well the pleasure the privelidge is mine There is a light that never goes out"). Another drawing of some figures in a bar during a Quiz Night (themed around the pop-star Morrissey) was made. Yet another drawing was made, this one depicting some heads, a chalice, and a figure laying on a couch (with the head of Morrissey floating above him) listening to a stereo-system. These three drawings were placed on the western wall underneath the drawing of a DJ:ing figure and a chalice. Above and to the left of these a drawing of some figures in a cafe, with a band performing in one of the rooms, was placed. Another drawing was made of a figure surrounded by -among other things- an apartment building with a large moon/pizza above it, a bicycle, a sleeping figure, a chalice, a portrait of Morrissey, a moon, a sun, the planet Saturn, a sword in a stone and a group of buildings with a tram-line passing between them. This drawing was placed on the eastern wall to the right of the drawing of a figure playing instruments in an apartment. Another group of drawings was made and placed on the inner eastern wall by the cluster of images depicting a rehearsal space and a record store. These new drawing were placed beneath the ones of persons playing instruments, anarchy signs and palm-trees. The first of these drawings depicted two figures at a shirne dedicated to the Virgin Mary reciving amulets and the same two figures walking along the bottom edge of the sheet of paper (one of them talking on a cell-phone). The next drawing depicted a street-fair and a word balloon reading "Try to get deep-fried Oreos". The last of these drawings depicted a head with the planet Saturn above it. Another drawing was also made and placed beneath the cut-out drawing of a rehearsal space; this drawing depicted a group of figures in a cafe, with a band performing. Above the photographs of a park and a red gateway, a drawing which was made at the McCarren Pool Park (near the Jack the Pelican Presents gallery) of a band (Jelly NYC) performing within said pool park was placed (the drawing having been made during a free concert held there that same day). A laptop computer was also placed on the floor underneath the drawing of a rehearsal space -on it's screen could be seen a slideshow of a journey from the city of Göteborg in Sweden to the neighboring city of Mölndal. Underneath the drawing (placed on the eastern wall) of a figure playing instruments in an apartment, another drawing was placed of a some vaguely sketched figures (one with a lamp) and four ghosts. Parts of drawings from photocopied pages of a notebook I had kept during an earlier visit to New York (during the fall of 2005) were cut out and placed on the floor of the gallery space (some among the coffeegrinds, and others -including images of a mohawked skeleton spraypainting an anarchy sign, bricks, and a garbage can- on the floor by the rehearsal-space drawing). . |
